Sheffield Basketball Summer League

 

With the Sheffield Basketball League regular season coming to a close and the knock out competitions about to begin details of the 2012 SBL Summer Leagues have been announced.

 

This year the SBL hope to have both senior and junior competitions. For the senior age group we plan to have 2 levels of competitions ‘Development League’ catering for new teams and participants and ‘Competitive League’ aimed at those already involved in basketball leagues. The summer league will be organised by Nick Dawson from England Basketball with the help of Tom Hill from Sheffield Suns.

 

Senior Summer competitions will start in June and will run till the end of August. Games will be held from 6:30-9:30pm on Thursday and Friday evenings at All Saints / Goals Sports Centre Granville Road, Sheffield, S2 2RJ. Games will be 2 x 24 minute halves with a running clock. Details of tip times and league format will be confirmed once entries are received. Junior competitions start dates, times and venues are yet to be confirmed, but should be announced at the start of April.

 

The number of team entries we receive will determine the cost of the summer league and the number of games each team will play however we do expect each team to play around 12 games.

 

To enter teams need to complete the Entry Form and send it to Nick Dawson by Sunday May 6th.

 

The cost to enter will be between £290 & £330 (the more teams that enter the cheaper the cost) and this will be confirmed once the deadline for entries has passed. The slight rise on last year’s fees follows participants’ feedback from last summer league relating to referees. For the 2012 competition we will now have 2 qualified referees in Competitive league games and 1 qualified referee in the Development league games.
