Hamza Ibrahim puts 73 points on Titans

Sheffield Starz 1 caused a minor upset in the quarter finals of the SBL cup with a resounding 139-77 victory against Titans. The game was remarkable for a number of reasons and we have gone back through the SBL records since 2010 to collate some data.

216 The second most points in an SBL game, just behind Sheffield Suns 133-95 Sheffield Starz 1 from 2016
139 The second most points scored by a team, just behind 141 scored by Sheffield Starz 2 v South Yorkshire Police in 2013
73 Points scored by Hamza Ibrahim - the highest on record by a single player in a game
88.1% Games this season where the losing team scored less than 73 points
56.2% Games this season where the winning team scored less than 73 points
6 No of teams that averaged more than 73 points per game this season
2 No of points that Hamza was shy of equalling the total of both teams in the lowest scoring game this season (Hillsborough 42-33 Ecclesall Hunters, Jan 18)
53 Points scored by Xavier McIntosh - the highest on record by a single player on a losing team
73-53 The exact score of Sheffield Storm 1 v Rotherham Hawks on Sep 21
54.1% Games this season where both teams scores totalled 126 or less (the same as Hamza plus Xavier)
9 The number of threes scored by Jacob Paredes-Lee, whose 43 points would have been good for the third best personal total of the season before this game, but was only good enough for third highest in this game

This completed a disappointing end to the season for Titans, whose hopes of winning the Division 1 title disappeared in a 73-66 loss to G-Corp. This result gave the title to Team Nook 1 for the fifth consecutive season after they went through the season with an 11-1 record.

So far the knockout competitions have proven to be fertile ground for upsets with USB Spartans 2, Sheffield Storm 2, Kingstone Knights, Barnsley Barbarians and Wickersley Vikings all knocking out teams from higher divisions.

The last set of quarter finals are due to take place this week, with the Shield semi finals also due for Friday. The Cup and Plate semi finals will then be next week with all of the finals due on May 17.
