Sheffield Basketball

About us

The Sheffield Basketball League (SBL) is a recreational basketball league based in Sheffield at the English Institute of Sport (EIS).
The SBL provides opportunities for adults and young people to get involved in basketball by joining teams and playing basketball in an organised and safe environment. The SBL is the only recreational adult basketball league in Sheffield and we have teams enter from all over Yorkshire.
Games take place at EIS-Sheffield and All Saints School and tip off at 6:45pm or later from Wednesday to Friday.
The league also provides opportunities for people to become involved in refereeing or table officiating.
The league is affiliated with Basketball England and all games are officiated by qualified officials registered with the governing body.
Our Competitions
The Sheffield Basketball League currently conisists of four divisions. New teams normally start in Division 4, but occasionally teams can be entered higer in the structure based on previous experience.
The SBL also runs knockout competitions during the season. The format of these competitions can change from season to season, but the principle is to allow teams to have more games after the season is finished. The draw for these competitions is normally completed during the season to ensure that teams have prior warning to their commitments to the competition.
Once the regular season finishes, the SBL organises a summer league competition which is more informal than the regular season and encourages new teams to enter and get a feel for competitive basketball in an organised and safe environment.
