SBL members recognised with volunteer awards

Volunteer Awards

Three SBL officials and one player have been recognised by Basketball England in their annual volunteer awards.

The awards for the Yorkshire region were announced today and of the 13 awards announced, a quartet have SBL links.

SBL locked up the 'people who sit down during the game' section of the awards with Zoe Silcock being announced as the "Table Official of the Year", Craig Costello picking up the "Statistician of the Year" and Loxley player Tyler Gayle collecting the "Children's Coach of the Year" - which to be fair probably involves a fair amount of standing.

Also honoured was Jess Fox, who was named as "All Girls Inspiring Female".

Silcock commented "I'm very honoured to be receiving the award. It is very overwhelming and I am thankful for the opportunities that I have been given."

Costello stated "It is very gratifying to be acknowledged for the time that I put in to the sport, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't love it. I'd like to dedicate the award to every member of SBL who makes it a pleasure to be involved - and even to those that don't."

Basketball England Yorkshire regional chair Andy Harrison-Beaumont commented "Congratulations to all our award winners who well deserve their nominations. We are truly blessed to have individuals such as these in our region who give up their time, week in week out, so that others can enjoy basketball in all its forms in Yorkshire."

The winners will now be up for consideration for the national awards, to be announced in the coming weeks.
